SpActrum's Nudibranch: An Architectural Marvel Inspired by Sea Creatures

Golden A' Design Award Winner Transforms Nanji Island Landscape with Innovative Hotel and Resort Design

SpActrum's groundbreaking design, Nudibranch, merges architecture and nature in an eco-friendly hotel and resort project, drawing inspiration from the island's famous sea creatures. The design has been awarded the prestigious Golden A' Design Award in 2021, reflecting its extraordinary excellence and significant impact on the world of architecture.

The Nudibranch design is a testament to SpActrum's innovative approach to architecture. Inspired by sea creatures native to Nanji Island, such as nudibranch and other shellfish, the design mimics a "mollusk" that lifts itself by its soft legs and stretches its tentacles to explore different directions. The public part of the hotel resembles a floating space above the sand, with the sandy ground blending into the hotel to become an outdoor playground in the shadow cast by the building above.

The design's unique properties lie in its organic form and flexible connectivity, blurring the boundaries between the building and the landscape. It sits on the site like a nudibranch crouching on a peaceful bay, creating a harmonious blend of architecture and nature. This innovative approach to design sets the Nudibranch apart from traditional hotel and resort structures.

SpActrum's commitment to sustainability is evident in the Nudibranch design. The team has installed numerous eco-friendly technologies to minimize the environmental impact of the building. The Nudibranch project, spanning 31000 Sq Meters, was completed between January and April 2020 on Nanji Island, Wen Zhou, Zhejiang Province, P.R.China. The design team, led by Yan Pan and Zhen Li, included architects Yu Zheng, Hao Chen, ShAil Paragkum Patel, and assistant architects Nan Sun and Yuchen Qiu.
